Vale of
Clwyd and the Clwydian Hills

A cycle tour for cyclists wanting moderate
cycling with a few hills, rewarded by fantastic views! The route mainly follows river
valleys and then crosses the Clwydian Hills, picking the easiest route and
providing the challenge of
some varied
cycling. Distances allow for more
hilly terrain. The break starts
near Moel Famau country park and you spend the first day on a short local cycle ride. You
then follow the Clwyd valley to market town of Ruthin for two nights,
staying on the outskirts in a quiet comfortable B & B with a village
pub just down the road. There are circular ride options for this day, and
also opportunity to visit Ruthin. Then on to Denbigh before crossing the hills and
returning down the Alyn valley.

ITINERARY
Day 1 - Arrive
at Druid Inn at Llanferres from lunchtime. The pub is a busy (locals,
walkers and cyclists) pub which is a regular Good Pub Guide main entry. We
meet you when you arrive to deliver bikes and adjust them to make sure
they are comfortable. Circular ride around countryside to village of Maeschafn (about 8 miles)
Day
2 - Cycle through village of Llanarmon at the foot of the Clwydian
hills and then a climb over the ridge (fantastic views) passing
Pen-y-Ffrith
Waterfowl
Park. The route
continues
to Graig Fechan, Llaneliden and from here crosses the Clwyd river and
continues on to a village just outside Ruthin for an overnight stay. 21.5
miles Day
3 - Either have a rest day - optional short circular ride first-
and then explore Ruthin, or more strenuous ride to forests.
Day 4 -
The next day head into
Ruthin, with time to visit Ruthin goal or
the craft centre. Then the route follows quiet lanes to the small market
town of Denbigh, with a castle perched on the hillside. From here the route takes you
through Trefnant and Tremeirchion to Plas Penucha for your last night, a
lovely quiet B & B. 24.5
miles.
Day 5 - Cycle
back to Llanferres through Caerwys, past the Antiques Centre at Afon Wen.
From here the route continue to Nannerch and Cilcain, finally following
the river Alyn past Loggerheads Country Park. We meet you back in
Llanferres with you luggage and to collect the bikes. 21 miles.
