Walk the Llangollen Canal

5 or 6 nights - GENTLE/MODERATE

The lake at EllesmerePontcysyllte AqueductEllemere - deliCanal at Wrenbury

Walk the beautiful Llangollen canal from Nantwich through the market towns of Whitchurch and Ellesmere to Llangollen. The canal is a major feat of engineering, starting on the rolling Cheshire Plain, crossing the Chirk and Pontcysyllte Aqueducts and as you reach the welsh hills, following the Dee valley through Llangollen to its source at the Horseshoe Falls. There's plenty of boat traffic to watch and lots of wildlife.

Accommodation is in quiet B & B’s and farms close to the canal. There is a short day to Ellesmere allowing time to explore this market town on the canal with its pretty Mere (small lake). There are two options for the last stages of the walk, one spending the last night in Llangollen and the other leaving that day, but with a shorter route so still allowing time to explore the town. See itineraries below.  Total distance 53 miles
