Walk the way marked Sandstone Trail which follows a ridge from Beacon Hill at Frodsham, through Delamere Forest, past Beeston Castle and over the Peckforton Hills to Grindley Brook near Whitchurch on the Shropshire border. The ridge divides the low plains of the River Dee to the west and the River Weaver to the East and has great views over the Cheshire Plain to the Welsh Hills. The ridge is characterised by rocky outcrops and wooded areas giving way to rolling farmland towards Whitchurch . Total walking distance is 30 - 35 miles depending on overnight stops. The walk is relatively easy with some more moderate hilly sections. 

Start on the first day with a gentle walk from Frodsham to the first nights B & B (We meet you at the start and collect your luggage). Daily walking distance on the 4 day break is 7 - 10 miles and on the 3 day break is 10 - 12 miles.

ITINERARY  - Standard - Gentle

First Day - Arrive in Frodsham from lunchtime early afternoon. We meet you to collect your luggage and run through the arrangements. Have a look around Frodsham and then walk onto the ridge, with views over the Mersey, to the edge of Delamere Forest. Accommodation at small Organic Farm 3 - 4 miles 

Day 2 - Walk through Delamere Forest, Primrose Hill wood and past Summertrees tearooms (worth a stop for homemade cake) and on to the Georgian village of Tarporley. Several pubs and a nice Italian restaurant. Accommodation, Foresters Arms. Can upgrade to the Swan Hotel. 10 miles

Day 3 - Today a gentle walk from Tarporley past the canal and on to Beeston Castle (worth a climb up if its a fine day) and then onto the Peckforton Hills, a low ridge. Pass the Candleworkshops and the nice Pheasant Inn at Burwardsley. Accommodation at the very comfortable Manor Farm. Eat at the Cholmondeley Arms - Cheshire Dining pub of the year many time. 8 miles

Day 4 - Today's walk takes you back onto the ridge for a short distance and then through rolling Cheshire farmland to the end of the walk where we meet you with your luggage and take you back to the car or on to the station. 11 miles, or option to stop on the edge of Whitchurch 9 miles.

Day 5 - Option to spend an extra night at the end at a country house hotel in Frodsham and depart the next morning.

 

ITINERARY  - Country Hotel and farm itinerary - Moderate 

First Day - Arrive in Frodsham. Stay at Heathercliffe House Country Hotel. 

Day 2 - We meet you to collect your luggage and run through the arrangements. Walk from Frodsham and onto the ridge, with views over the Mersey, to Delamere Forest. From here walk  through Primrose Hill wood and past Summertrees tearooms (worth a stop for homemade cake). Accommodation at Willington Hall Hotel. 11 - 12 miles

Day 3 - Today a gentle walk through farmland and over the canal to Beeston Castle (worth a climb up if its a fine day). From here head onto the Peckforton Hills, a low ridge. Pass the Candleworkshops and the very good Pheasant Inn, at Burwardsley. Accommodation at Manor Farm. Eat at the Cholmondeley Arms - Cheshire Dining pub of the year many time. 12 miles
