Stay at Willington
Hall Country House Hotel near the
village of Tarporley or Manor Farm near Cholmondeley. Beeston Castle,
Delamere Forest and the Peckforton Hills are close by. Tarporley has a
pretty high street with good shops for browsing and a choice of pubs and tea
shops. Chester is only 20 minutes by car with its lovely Roman walls,
good shopping and excellent choice of food.
The surrounding
countryside is great for walking with quiet towpaths, winding lanes,
footpaths, pretty villages. Walks are a gentle 4 - 6 miles or moderate 8 -
10 miles and include along the canal to Bunbury village with its restored water
mill, following the Sandstone Trail through Delamere Forest and Primrose Hill Woods,
or to Beeston Castle and around the Peckforton Hills. Can also mix with cycling -

Accommodation: Willington Hall
is a small privately owned AA *** Country House Hotel with a good restaurant.
The hotel has 10 bedrooms and stands in 17 acres of formal gardens and
parkland, with views over to the Welsh hills. For breaks based here,
three course dinner is included in the restaurant (except Sunday evenings
when the restaurant is closed and slightly reduced menu served in the bar.)
   
Manor
Farm is in a quiet rural setting and has a lovely garden with views towards
Bickerton Hill. Dinner is not
included here; there are several very good
pubs a short drive away for evening meals.

Walk
to Beeston Castle, around the
Peckforton Hills to Higher Burwardsley for a stop at the Candleworkshops
and Pheasant Inn. Distance 5 miles
or 8.5 miles. Castle is worth a visit, great views across 8
counties!

Explore Delamere
Forest following sections of Sandstone Trail, lunch at the visitor
centre or nearby cafe. Easy paths. Distance - 6 miles, or 9 miles

Walk to the pretty
village of Bunbury to busy staircase locks, past restored water mill,
lunch at local pub (recommended for food). Canal towpath and quiet
footpaths. Distance 6 miles

Walk from Boot Inn at
Kelsall, through Primrose Hill Woods and along section of the Sandstone
Trail. Good views. Distance - 5 miles.

to Rawhead and Maiden Castle ruins following Sandstone Trail - 5 miles

Stay
at the Golden Pheasant Hotel in
the hamlet of Llwynmawr, near Glyn Ceiriog. Glyn Ceiriog is
about 1½ miles away and has a post office, general store,
chemist, pub and couple of hotels. Llangollen a busy market
town on the Welsh border is only a short drive away and the
roman city of
Chester
is about 45 minutes.
The area is a popular
walking area
and close to Offa's
Dyke Long Distance Footpath. A
selection of moderate circular walks.
The
Golden Pheasant is a
comfortable 17 room hotel. All rooms are en suite, with TV,
tea and coffee making facilities, telephone and hairdryers.
There is a licensed bar and restaurant and car park. The
hotel will take dogs. Three course dinner is included
 
Glasgwm
B & B is a lovely walker friendly B & B in
Llangollen. Dinner is not
included here; there are plenty
of places to eat in Llangollen including the Corn Mill and
Gales.
