This easy one centre cycling holiday is based near Tarporley and Delamere Forest, close to the Peckforton Hills. Tarporley has a pretty High Street with good shops for browsing and choice of pubs and tea shops. Circular rides along quiet lanes and through pretty villages like Bunbury and Tattenhall. Visit Beeston Castle, Cheese and Ice Cream Farm. Delamere Forest has lovely cycle trails and a visitor centre.

Enjoy this easy Byways Breaks cycling holiday and stay at Willington Hall Country House hotel near the Georgian village of Tarporley, or the Cholmondeley Arms Inn, a country pub and regular good pub guide entry near Cholmndeley Castle Gardens. They are both close to Beeston Castle and the Peckforton Hills.  The surrounding countryside is great for cycling with quiet lanes and pretty villages.

Visit Beeston Castle, the Ice Cream Farm, Delamere Forest, Shire Horse Centre and pretty villages like Tattenhall and Bunbury with the Dysart Arms, one of the best pubs in the area. Can be combined with some days walking – see the Tarporley Walking Break.

Itinerary for Tarporley and Delamere One Centre

First Day – Arrive at accommodation from lunchtime. We meet you when you arrive to deliver bikes and adjust them to make sure they are comfortable. Gentle cycling route for first afternoon.

Day 2 and 3 – Circular cycling routes

Last Day – Check out of your room. You can leave your car and then do a circular cycle ride. We will meet you back at the accommodation later in the day, at an agreed time to collect the bikes.

Circular ride options

We have a variety of cycling routes depending on distance you want to do, and accommodation choice, including

  • Beeston Castle, worth a visit, with views across 8 counties on a clear day. Go through Bunbury village (small detour takes you to working water mill and staircase locks on the canal). There is also the excellent Dysart Arms! – Easy, Moderate and Strenuous routes
  • Little Budworth Common, Shire Horse Centre and Budworth village – Gentle
  • Delamere Forest with some gentle traffic free cycle trails, some hills to get to the forest. Also visit Shire Horse Centre and Kelsall with the lovely Boot Inn – Moderate, Strenuous
  • Hockenhull Platts nature reserve and Tarvin. – Moderate. Strenuous route includes Chester
  • Bunbury, Wrenbury and Marbury Mere – Strenuous
  • Bunbury village, canal and Dysart Arms – Easy/gentle
  • If you are coming by train there is an option to cycle to Chester on last day, and have a look around, and we can meet you at the station with your luggage and to collect the bikes – Gentle or moderate
