Description

Offa’s Dyke walking holidays offer varied walking and lovely scenery. You get views over some of the most beautiful mountains and valleys in Wales. Our Offa’s Dyke walking holidays follow the Welsh-English border along the line of the original Offa’s Dyke. Offa’s Dyke, is a long earth wall and ditch built by King Offa in the 8th century. It was built to mark and defend the border between England and Wales.

Our Offa’s Dyke walking holidays are flexible and self-guided. Follow this interesting and well marked National Trail which is 177 miles long. Offa’s Dyke starts in Chepstow on the Severn estuary and goes to Prestatyn on the north wales coast. This lovely long distance walk celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2021.

Walk through the Black mountains, Welsh Marches, Berwyn Mountains and the Clwydian Hills. The path follows several sections of well preserved parts of the original 8th century Offa’s Dyke earthworks. There are some more challenging sections, particularly between Knighton and Cwm near Church Stoke which although not so high has a lot of ups and downs. The Black mountains section is also a bit more of a climb. Offa’s Dyke passes through many interesting small towns and villages. Explore Chepstow, Hay on Wye (famous for its old bookshops), Kington, Knighton and Llangollen on the river Dee.

Byways Breaks offer a flexible route planning, accommodation booking and luggage service on Offa’s Dyke. This service is for independent walkers who don’t want a full walking holiday package, but would like help and support, with expert local knowledge. For full details see the ‘more information’ tab above. We can organise your Offa’s Dyke in either direction, so south to north or north to south. We can organise Offa’s Dyke walking holidays along the whole path or any section of the trail and for any number of days.
