Chester – Voted one of favourite cities in UK

10th September 2014

Chester has just been voted number 8 favourite city by the travel magazine Conde Nast

Chester is a wall Roman city which has much to offer the visitor, but is small enough to walk around easily. The city has many grade 1 listed medieval and Victorian buildings. The city walls are almost intact and there is an interesting walk around them. It has a beautiful Cathedral and has the famous Rows, a unique covered two tier shopping walkways dating back to the 13th century. Chester is also home to many interesting and independent shops and plenty of award winning cafes, restaurants and pubs.

Several of Byways Breaks cycling holidays start either in or close to Chester allowing a visit to this lovely city. One of our popular hotels is right on the city walls, so close to the centre, but in a quiet spot with a lovely view over the river.

The Canals Castles and Chester cycling holiday is a 2 or 3 night break, ideal for a weekend starting in Chester, cycling through Delamere Forest and onto Tarporley. From here its past Beeston Castle to the Cholmondeley Arms with comfortable rooms and excellent food, which has been a Good Pub Guide main entry for many years.

The Castles and Meres cycling holiday follows the  Canals, Castles and Chester route and then heads down the pretty market town of Ellesemere inteh Shropshire Lakes area.
