Description

This Delamere to Ellesmere cycling holiday is a more strenuous short cycling break and starts near Delamere Forest. From here head south through quiet parts of west Cheshire to Nantwich, the canalside villages of Audlem and Wrenbury, then along the welsh border into the pretty Shropshire lakes area.

Start at Little Budworth, near Tarporley, explore Delamere Forest, and then head south, through Nantwich, and the canalside villages of Audlem and Wrenbury, where the the Dusty Miller pub makes a good lunchtime stop, to watch the canal boats negotiating the swing bridge.

From here along the welsh border to the market town of Ellesmere on the Shropshire Lakes. Spend 2 nights here with a circular ride along the canal and passing some of the small lakes in the area to Wem and Whittingon Castle. Finally head back to Little Budworth through the pretty countryside and villages along the welsh border.

Itinerary for Delamere to Ellesmere

35 – 40 mile route

Day 1 – Arrive in Little Budworth from lunchtime. We will meet you when you arrive, to deliver bikes and adjust them to make sure they are comfortable. Circular ride to Delamere Forest 24 miles or shorter ride if arriving later to Tarporley about 8 miles.

Day 2 – Cycle from Little Budworth to Tarporley and on to the canalside village Wrenbury, past Cholmondeley Castle Gardens and then to Hanmer with its pretty mere. From here continue on to Ellesmere. 35 – 40 miles

Day 3 – From Ellesmere a circular ride to Colemere Country Park and Whittington Castle.  About 35 – 40 miles

Day 4 – Cycle back to Little Budworth along the river Dee through Overton, Bangor on Dee with its small racecourse and on to Farndon. From here circle the Peckforton Hills to Tattenhall pass the Ice Cream farm and Beeston Castle. We meet you back at your starting point with your luggage and to collect the bikes.- 38 miles – we can shorten this route if you want to finish early.

40 – 50 mile route

Day 1 – Arrive in Little Budworth from lunchtime. We will meet you when you arrive, to deliver bikes and adjust them to make sure they are comfortable. Circular ride to Delamere Forest 24 miles or shorter ride if arriving later to Tarporley about 8 miles.

Day 2 – Cycle from Little Budworth to Tarporley and then on to Nantwich with its pretty streets, antique shops and small museum. The route then continues to the canalside village of Audlem, passing Stapley Water Gardens, through Wrenbury, on to Cholmondeley and Malpas. From here the route continues through Hanmer with its pretty Mereonto Ellesmere. Distance is 51 miles.

Day 3 – Circular ride past Colemere Country Park to Wem, then through Burlton and on to Whittington castle ruins. From here quiet countryside back to Ellesmere  – Just over 40 miles

Day 4 – Cycle back to Little Budworth along the river Dee through Overton, Bangor on Dee with its small racecourse and on to Farndon.
