Sandstone Trail Walk on Julia Bradbury’s, Britains 100 Best Walks

28th January 2017

The Sandstone Trail walk was picked by Julia Bradbury as one of Britains 100 Best Walks and shown on ITV in January 2017. It is one of the walking holidays that Byways Breaks organise and it makes an ideal short break.

The Sandstone Trail is a  low ridge walk which runs through Cheshire. The walk starts in Frodsham, climbs Beacon Hill and heads to Delamere Forest. From here you pass Beeston Castle and follow the low level Peckforton Hills to the Llangollen canal. The Sandstone Trail walk finishes in Whitchurch on the Shropshire border. This low sandstone ridge divides the plains of the River Dee to the west and the River Weaver to the East. There are great views over the Cheshire Plain to the Welsh Hills on clear days. It makes an ideal short weekend walking holiday.

The total walking distance is 30 – 35 miles depending on overnight stops. The Sandstone Trail is a relatively gentle walk with some moderate hilly sections. The trail is well signposted and Byways offer various options over 2 or 3 walking days. We can also tailor this holiday if you want to do it a little more gently and take a few more days.

Byways Breaks walking holiday includes bed and breakfast accommodation, maps, route details,  luggage transfer and full back up. See the Sandstone Trail Walking Holiday for more information
